Alexandra – Middle Eastern Dance Artist
Alexandra Lenis owns and directs the Art of Bellydance Studio Miami, Florida, a dance organization and school dedicated to educating, inspiring and diffusing this ancient art form.
Alexandra has been dancing and teaching in South Florida as well as internationally for over 11 years. Her dance education began at Florida International University studying Flamenco under the university’s dance program while she was pursuing a Bachelor degree in Business Administration. Her Middle Eastern dance education started at the Mid Eastern Dance Exchange Academy, (a non-profit organization) where she became an integral part their legendary Emerald Dreams Dance Company under the direction of internationally acclaimed interpretative Middle Eastern dancer and published author Tamalyn Dallal.
Alexandra has traveled extensively to learn the dance and culture of the Middle East, including places such as Egypt, Turkey and Morocco. She has performed as special guest artist in various dance productions and dance festivals locally and internationally including as faraway places as China. She was featured as a soloist in various theatre productions as well as in several of the renowned “Orientalia” international dance festivals (2003, 2004, 2005 and 2009). In 2005, together with Ms. Dallal, she organized an educational dance retreat in Siwa, Egypt. (A desert oasis in the Sahara desert)
Media appearances include performances in National TV networks MSNBC Telemundo, Univision and Mega TV.
As one of her latest teaching accomplishments she was selected as a master teacher at the regional Young Arts program- (under the National Foundation for the Advancement in the Arts) where she was a mentor teacher to a grant recipient of Middle Eastern Dance.
Alexandra teachers adults and children in all levels. Her strong knowledge and diverse dance technique on various world dances allows her to teach with a broad cultural sensitivity. Along with her cultural sense and her dynamic teaching style she is known for making learning world culture enriching and fun. She currently owns and directs the Art of Bellydance and Creative Expressions Children programs.
